About The Fables

The Adventures of the Bunny Prince & Tales of the Duchess of Duck is an opportunity to update the values which we teach our children. It concerns itself with the importance of diversity and acceptance of our differences. The fables are about more and enlightened ways of dealing with familiar issues. They address the resolution of conflict without force, and include lessons about learning to laugh at ourselves. Making these fables visually engaging is our illustrator, Pamela Silin-Palmer, one of the top designer / illustrators in the United States. We feel this collection of fables provides a humane mythology for the children of our times. At an early age, children form their views of the outside world which creates a basis for interaction in that world, and these fables provide examples for that interaction.

Perhaps above all else, these fables are about relationships between very diverse personalities. The relationship between the two primary characters, The Bunny Prince and The Duchess of Duck, is central to the Adventures themselves. These two characters are resolving some of the eternal differences between males and females, and demonstrate how the male and female roles compliment each other. All of the fables provide a variety of female and male protagonists. Each has valid qualities to contribute. These fables offer children positive models of male and female successfully interacting together, while allowing each to maintain his or her unique identity. When negative elements appear within the persona of a character, they are they are dealt with in a straightforward and empathetic manner, offering reasonable solutions to the problems they may have caused.

The fables take place in a fantasy land ruled by a family of royal bunnies. The primary characters in the fables are The Bunny Prince, his friend The Duchess of Duck, and little Fieldish The Fieldmouse. There are 6 additional main characters who appear in one or more of the fables. Each character is archetypal in some way, yet represents an evolved viewpoint in a very entertaining guise, hopefully inspiring new icons.

The Bunny Prince himself, represents the unspoiled openness of childhood. He is fearless, ever looking forward to the new day and a new adventure, having no idea what might be encountered. He represents the hope, idealistic enthusiasm and the naiveté of youth.

The Duchess of Duck, the strong female lead, is a positive role model for the 90's and beyond. Although she is visually beautiful, her strength comes from being centered and from knowing herself. She is somewhat older and more experienced than The Bunny Prince, but in no way condescending. She is fun-loving, verbal with a wry sense of humor, and has an adventurous curiosity which makes her friendship with The Bunny Prince an exciting one.

Other characters include the very comical Hog Dog, an avid overeater with a confident self image; The Hat Cat, an elegant cat who expresses himself through the hundreds of hats that he wears; and the savvy but reluctant dreamer, Fieldish the Fieldmouse, who can imagine almost anything, yet is quite cautious about exploring real life.

The Bunny Prince —Present and Future

  1. A collection of Theme Songs about each of the main characters in the fables has been composed and produced. Each is professionally recorded and sung in a fun short form (40 - 100 seconds), with the idea of expanding them into major production pieces. They are presented along with a sample of a narrated fable.

2. A treatment has been written for both a feature-length animated program and short-form videos for children, based on the fables. Also envisioned is a children's 30 minute television program (or a series of 10 minute videos) which feature 3 fables per 30 minute episode. This would correspond with the collection of written fables which are currently grouped as collections of three fables per book.

3. Interactive game concepts based upon the character and fables has been developed. Additionally, a mock-up of a 3-dimensional board game has been created.

4. These fables are well suited to family-oriented stage production. It is envisioned that a collection of fables presented as a matinee-style musical adventure will provide lush visuals, exciting music, stunning choreography, humor and a richly rewarding entertainment experience for children of all ages.

5. Merchandise, including plush toys and costumes.
